Markets in the Basque Country

In this article, we'll introduce you to some of the most emblematic markets, where you can pick up local produce, sample culinary specialities and take home some unique souvenirs. BAYONNE 

Located in the heart of the historic city of Bayonne, this colourful market is a must for visitors in search of culinary delights. Let yourself be seduced by the tempting aromas of the stalls offering fresh produce such as Bayonne ham, Basque cheeses, seafood and the famous Espelette chillies. And don't forget to try the delicious Basque chocolate, a local speciality not to be missed.

  • The covered market is open every day, with 21 traders, with different opening times each day. (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday: 7am to 1.30pm / Friday: 7am to 2.30pm / Saturday: 6am to 2.30pm / Sunday and public holidays: 8am to 2.30pm)
  • Wednesdays: Place des Gascons from 8am to 1pm and from 4pm to 8pm the Maison du Séqué market
  • Saturday mornings: Carreau des Halles, on the banks of the Nive and the bridge
  • Every morning except Sunday: fish market at the Allées Marines fishery


ANGLET 

The Anglet market is a lively place where you can discover a variety of fresh, local produce. You'll find seasonal fruit and vegetables, freshly caught fish, Basque specialities such as Bayonne ham and ewe's milk cheese, as well as artisanal products. The market's friendly atmosphere will allow you to meet local producers and enjoy an authentic experience during your visit to Anglet.

  • Every Thursday and Sunday morning, from 8am to 1pm, on the Quintaou esplanade and Friday night market from 6pm to 11pm.
  • Halles des 5 Cantons covered market, Monday to Sunday, 8am to 2pm and Friday, 4pm to 8pm, in July and August. Closed on Mondays from September to June.


BIARRITZ 

If you're staying in Biarritz, be sure to visit its lively market. As well as fresh produce, you'll find stalls selling clothes, accessories, jewellery and objets d'art. Take your time to browse the stalls and pick up some unique souvenirs to take home. For a complete culinary experience, stop off at one of the market's tapas bars and sample some of the region's delicious pintxos.

ARCANGUES 

The Arcangues market offers a picturesque and authentic experience. This local market is renowned for its friendly atmosphere. GUÉTHARY
